Art of Fire Dancing in Costa Rica

Costa Rica, nestled in between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans is a tropical paradise teeming with fun things to do for the adventurous vacationer. From its lush tropical jungles to endless beaches, Costa Rica is the perfect paradise to relax and catch some sun in.

When vacationing down in Costa Rica, fire dancing is definitely something that you have to check out. Originating in New Zealand by the Maori people around 3000 BC, fire dancing, or Poi, was originally a ritual to build up flexibility, strength, and coordination. Now it has become an extravagant performance art.

Depending on how involved you want to get in fire dancing, you can take classes that range from one week, all the way up to four weeks. Classes are held from Monday through Friday and are 90 minutes long. Classes will be held on a beach or covered veranda. In this setting you will hear waves crashing in, birds singing in the tropical jungle behind you, and feel the warmth of the sun on your skin.

During your classes, the instructors will teach you many skills including weaves, butterfly, the gremlin, flowers, mind meltdowns and more. From being totally new, you can expect to learn basics within a week. If you have the time and patience, you can become a pro within four weeks. You will be amazed at what you learn in such a short time. The instructors are wonderful at what they teach and will leave you feeling fulfilled.

If you are feeling really adventurous, take classes that involve fire dancing and Spanish. With the help of the native population, you definitely could be well versed in a foreign language and fire dancing in the course of four weeks. By the time you return home, you will feel relaxed, fulfilled, and definitely happy!
